Iron Man The Movie How The Story Unfolds
It all begins with an industrialist – not just any ordinary industrialist but a billionaire who is blessed with brains to boot – but then aren’t most superheroes? Tony Stark makes a trip to Afghanistan to discuss the design of a new missile with the Air Force personnel stationed there. Well, he goes and gets himself captured by enemy forces in Afghanistan – a move away from the old Cold War and Vietnam of the comics to make it more contemporary. They want this genius inventor to build them weapons of destruction, even though he is wounded with shrapnel lodged near his heart. Instead of cowering with fear and doing just what his captors want, Tony Stark our hero gets smart and goes on to use his time there not to build a missile as they ask him to do but to build a suit of armor with the help of another prisoner-scientist. Not any ordinary suit of armor but power armor that gives him incredible powers – super powers actually. No old world armor, this. It is an armor that is bulletproof and is equipped with flamethrowers and a pacemaker to keep him alive.
Once he has his power armor built and ready, he uses it to escape from his captors and he comes home. Here, he puts a few more finishing touches to the armor, and hey presto – we have the birth of a new superhero to fly through the wonderful Marvel universe – the Iron Man. The story encompasses a few more people – the pilot, Rhodey Rhodes, Tony’s secretary and the object of his affections, and his business rival, the Iron Monger or Obadiah Stane, who is the villain of this piece.
Back in the U.S., Tony Stark our hero realizes that there is a plot that is being hatched and the ramifications could result in a global catastrophe so his suit of armor needs to be worn again and he needs to go off and battle the evil ones like the knights of old. The world needs his good intentions to keep it safe and protected from the evil designs of the other side. His armor with its gold and red insignia stands for just this and he flies in this advanced power suit to wherever his presence is required. Mainly in this film, to battle with the Iron Monger. While the advanced capabilities of the power armor make it very contemporary, the story really has its roots in the good and evil of the middle ages and the knights who rode out to fight to protect the weak and to defeat evil. It’s a story as old as the hills but with a very tomorrow, hi-tech twist.
